1999-2002
In March, Keith Cenate resigned as Children/Youth Minister to accept a position at a church in LaGrange, Ga.
On April 25, the church voted for Kent Barrett to be Children/Youth worker for the summer.
On July 11th Rev. Bill Stacey resigned as Associate Pastor to accept the pastorate of Indian Creek Baptist Church.
A mission team from Pleasant Hill went to assist the First Baptist Church of Union, Ohio with the distribution of Jesus videos and a survey of the community.
A deacon ordination service was held for Ken Carter with the message being brought by Dr. Billy Owensby.
Dr. Billy Owensby resigned in August and his last service was on September 19. A church-wide dinner was held following the morning service. We wished him Godspeed as he begins his ministry at Bowman Baptist Church.
Rev. Bill Walker was elected to serve as Interim Pastor to begin on September 26th.
Jane Denman Kirkpatrick who is a physician in Rutherfordton, NC and daughter of Leon and Eleanor Denman gave a slide presentation of her mission trip to Suriname.
On October 3 Karen Chitwood was elected to serve as church secretary.

Praise and thanksgiving to a loving heavenly Father who has led Pleasant Hill Baptist Church into a new decade- the year 2000. We cannot rest on past blessings but we must press forward as we seek His perfect will and way for our church
After Rev. Walker completed his interim work in March, the pulpit was filled with various pastors until May, when Rev. Richard Bielski of Lavonia was elected as interim.
Mr. Ray Whiten was elected to serve as part-time Minister of Music and began serving our church on May 21, 2000. We gladly welcomed Ray and his wife Betty into our fellowship.
Upon recommendation from the Children/Youth Search Committee, Matt Turpin was elected to serve as summer worker through the month of August.
On May 28th, the church voted to call Dr. Doug Ferguson as pastor. He began serving on June 26, 2000, with July 2nd being his first Sunday.
Painting, replacing carpet and other improvements were made at the pastorium in preparation for the occupancy by our new pastor and his wife, Joan and daughters Bridget and Bethany.
It was with gratitude and joy that we welcomed the Fergusons into their second term as pastor. They come with confidence in God’s call and with a determination to serve Him faithfully.
Other events of interest were:
--- Several of our members participated in a Mission Trip to Palmetto Children’s Home. They helped with cleaning, painting, and yard work.
. --- New church signs were placed at the end of Wilson Road, Pleasant Hill Road, and also on Highway 17 near Arby’s.
--- A new church directory was published.
--- Voted to pave the roadway around the cemetery.
--- The deacons recommended that the Children/Youth Search Committee seek a Minister of Education/Students rather than a Minister of Children/Youth.
--- A security system was installed in the Sound Room
We are thankful for the way God has answered our prayers and guided our church to the men that he was preparing to serve our church as our pastor and minister of music. We are looking forward to a bright future as we follow the leadership that God has provided for Pleasant Hill.

Special emphasis on North American Missions was observed with Kevin Kurtz from Truckstop Ministries as speaker.
Several of our choir members joined other choir members from various churches and presented the “Experiencing God” musical at First Baptist Church-Lavonia and also at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Toccoa.
Bill & Ashley Stacey shared about their mission trip to El Salvador.
Matt Turpin was elected to serve as part-time Children/Youth worker for the summer.
For two summers the children have enjoyed S.T.A.R. Club. S-inging T-eaching, A-rt,
R-ecreation. This once a week program under the leadership of Ray Whiten provided excellent activities and learning experiences for the children.
An addition to the by-laws concerning the procedure for deacon election and changes in the qualifications for deacons was approved.
On September 9th we accepted the recommendation of the Mission Task Force to implement Mission Groups for the preschool through youth ages on Wednesday nights-Mission Friends for preschoolers, Children-in-Action, grades 1-5 and Youth-on-Mission, Middle School-High School. The mission material being used is provided through the W.M.U.
In the midst of the tragedy of September 11, 2001, God has drawn His people to a new realization of the brevity of life and for the need to live each day to its fullest seeking to share His love to all people and witness to the unsaved.
A deacon ordination service was held for Neal Gaines and Jimmy Carter with Pastor Doug Ferguson bringing the message.
Ryan Fortenberry of Macon, Ga. was elected to serve as Minister of Education/Students on October 7th.
Trehel Corporation of Clemson, S.C. was acquired to do a Phase/Master Plan for our church that would consist of a programming study of ministry and future growth. We also employed the services of Moreland Altobelli to provide a topographical survey of our facilities, buildings and roads.
An ordination service was held for Josh McCall on November 25th with Dr. Billy Owensby delivering the ordination sermon.

Realizing the great need for prayer, the Power Point Prayer Ministry was birthed. Prayer groups meet in homes and other locations to pray for the needs of the church, staff and all those in places of leadership. The Prayer Ministry has been a strong link in uniting the membership.
The Church council and committee chairpersons met with a representative of the Trehel Corporation to discuss facility and program needs. The chairpersons received surveys to be completed with the cooperation of the members of their area.
The resignation of Ryan Fortenberry, Minister of Education & Students was accepted in March.
In May we had the opportunity to hear Oksana Chuliy, a missionary from the Ukraine. She is with Operation Mobilization that has two full-time mission teams in the Ukraine.
We were privileged to have Joseph Mauldin, a music student at Toccoa Falls College serve his internship with Ray Whiten.
In July, several from our church went to Palmetto Children’s Home to help with painting, landscaping and other mission opportunities.
The Youth attended SuperWow at San Destin Florida. This proved to be a very inspiring time for all who attended, as a renewal of spiritual life was evident in their lives.
Luke Gaffney, a student at Toccoa Falls College served his internship with our pastor as part of his pastoral training required by the college. In September Luke was added to the church staff as part-time Minister of Students. He leads weekly Youth Bible studies and is in charge of outreach to students.

The following were recommended by the deacons to serve on the Building Committee: Keith Carter, LuAnn Cawthon, Howard Eaton, Travis Moon, Katherine Outz. We approved the Building Committee’s request for $4500.00 for Architectural drawings for future building proposal.
A change in the by-laws was voted on and passed to change church conference to the third Sunday night of each month rather than the second Sunday night.
The Roy Melton Scholarship Fund was established to be awarded to church members attending college or seminary in preparation for a church related or mission vocation.
We also established a fund to receive contributions that would support Henry & Cindy Ethridge, missionaries to Kyrgyzstan. They previously served with Snow Bird Ministries.
Senior Adults “Sunshine Group” We have some 50 active and inactive members and we meet monthly for a program, speaker, fellowship and a meal. We sing at Brown Convalescent Center once a month. We enjoy going on day trips and a few overnight trips. We have attended the Senior Adult Convention at Jekyll Island several times. We delivered fruit baskets to the shut-ins of our church for Thanksgiving and furnished a meal for construction workers at H.E.A.R.T. Ministries.
Music Ministry- by Ray Whiten, Minister of Music
Pleasant Hill is a singing church- a church that enjoys singing praises to our Heavenly Father. God has blessed Pleasant Hill with so many talented people who volunteer their time and talents to the Lord. Each Sunday, you will hear the choir render special music plus hear other testimonies through song. At various times you will be blessed by the Children and Youth Choirs. Throughout the year the church choir presents musicals for Easter, Christmas and other special events.
Our future is bright as we are now in the process of collecting funds to purchase three octaves of hand bells, tables and accessories. Hand bell choirs will be for older children through Senior Adults.
Also, a Praise Team of six to nine singers is being organized for the purpose of assisting in worship and to sing for special events.

Each Sunday, you will hear the choir render special music plus hear other testimonies through song. At various times you will be blessed by the Children and Youth Choirs. Throughout the year the church choir presents musicals for Easter, Christmas and other special events.
Our future is bright as we are now in the process of collecting funds to purchase three octaves of hand bells, tables and accessories. Hand bell choirs will be for older children through Senior Adults.
Also, a Praise Team of six to nine singers is being organized for the purpose of assisting in worship and to sing for special events.
